Freelance recap: Choate, Loomis perfect, Worcester falls, and more…

All of the teams in the Freelance division were in action Saturday, highlighted by a matchup between Worcester Academy and Choate. Loomis, the other perfect team, took on Cushing as well.

Worcester Academy 7-28 Choate

This game was a game of heavyweights. Both teams came into the game with undefeated records, Choate at 5-0 and Worcester at 4-0.

Choate struck first in the contest, as their QB John Fadule ’15 took it himself into the end zone for the Choate TD. At the end of the first quarter, Choate would lead 7-0.

The second quarter was filled with scoring. Worcester would come back to tie the score in the second at 7 a piece. This would not last long however, as Fadule would connect twice to Tyler Burns ’16. At the half Choate led 21-7.

In the second half, Jamal Williams ’15 would run for another Choate touchdown making the score 28-7 with the addition of the successful PAT. That would be the rest of the scoring on both sides of the ball as Choate held off Worcester, to beat them by a final score of 28-7.

Worcester suffers their first loss of the season and moves to 4-1 on the season. They will matchup against Loomis at home next Saturday, kickoff is scheduled for 2:00p. Choate will look to maintain their perfect record next Saturday at home with a tough game against a strong Suffield team. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30p.

Loomis 32-0 Cushing Academy

The Loomis Chaffee Pelicans came into Saturday’s contest eyeing a 5th straight win to maintain their perfect 4-0 record. Standing in their way was a winless Cushing team, eager to chalk up their first win of the season.

Loomis would come out firing on all cylinders. They caught the Cushing defense off guard. They proved dominant once again as they were able to sift through the Cushing defense scoring 32 points while doing so.

Cushing could not find the end zone for the second time this season, last when they lost to Choate 55-0. Cushing had a tough time defending the Loomis offense, which most teams have struggled to contain as well, as Loomis is 4-0.

Loomis will travel to Worcester Academy next Saturday for a 2:00p start. They will look to remain perfect against a team that was undefeated up until this Saturday. Cushing will still look for that elusive first win, as they will break in their home turf with their first home game this season against Exeter. Kickoff is set for 5:30p under the lights this coming Saturday.

Suffield Academy 34-0 Andover

The Tigers hosted Andover Saturday. Suffield came into the game riding a 2 game win streak, as Andover recorded their first win last weekend with a win over Cushing.

Suffield’s offense started off from where it left last Saturday. They put up 34 points, cruising to a 34-0 victory. Their defense has been the story of their season so far. Lead by Christian Wilkins ’15, a top D1 football recruit, they have allowed only 20 points this season. Those 20 points came in their only loss of the season against Worcester Academy. They have shutout their opponents in the other 3 games this season. The shutout against Andover Saturday would make it 4 games on the season and 3 in a row, where they have shutout their opponents.

Suffield will square off against powerhouse Choate next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30p at Choate. Andover will travel to Deerfield for their next game for a 3:45p start time.

Exeter 25-20 Deerfield

Winless Exeter tried to crack the win column with a win over Deerfield Saturday. Deerfield has dropped their last 2 games, with losses to powerhouses Loomis and Worcester.

Both teams came out of the gates wanting to get on track with a win. Deerfield struck first making the score 7-0. They would tack on a field goal half way through the 2nd quarter to bring the score to 10-0. Exeter, however, would not go back into the locker room with a zero on their half of the scoreboard. Exeter would connect on a long pass from Keaton Dunsford ’15 to JT Thompson ’16 for the touchdown. The score at the half was 10-7 Deerfield.

Exeter would strike first in the 2nd half with another touchdown pass from Dunsford. With a missed PAT, Exeter would lead the game 13-10. Deerfield would score on a pass and a field goal to move out front 20-13 at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, Dunsford would connect for his 3rd touchdown of the night and his second to Cecil Williams ’15 to make the score 20-19 Deerfield after another missed PAT. Late in the 4th quarter, Chris Dumont ’15 would seal the deal for Exeter with a rushing touchdown to give Exeter the 25-20 lead and their first win of the season.

Exeter will board the bus and head to Cushing for their next game with a 5:30p kickoff. Deerfield will travel to Andover for a 3:45p start time. They will look to end their 3 game losing streak.
